The construction of the Frances Appleton Pedestrian Bridge designed by Miguel Rosales in collaboration with STV will continue during the summer of 2018. The new arch will be contemporary in appearance and very transparent, in order to not obstruct views of the historic Longfellow Bridge, the river, and parkland. The slender and elegant main steel arch span is approximately 222 feet (68 m) long. The approach ramps will follow a similar architectural language, and will appear to float over the landscape before landing next to the river. Completion including all landscaping elements is expected in the fall. The existing non-compliant ADA and narrow pedestrian bridge will be demolished by end of 2018.
