City of Cambridge, MA

The proposed Alewife bicycle and pedestrian bridge will cross over railroad lines and a Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) maintenance facility in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The dramatic single steel deck arch will cross the railroad tracks with a clear span connecting two areas of active residential and office development. Elegant approach ramps will connect to the main span, integrating the same architectural language and detailing as the main span. The bridge will link two of the fastest growing neighborhoods in Cambridge and encourage residents to use nonmotorized modes of transportation. The bridge will be visible from long distances and will help identify the crossing from the adjacent residential areas and the Alewife MBTA station.
