The new Licking River Bridge includes three slender steel arches that will frame the river from a distance. The gateway bridge between Covington and Newport, Kentucky, will not have piers in the water. The unbraced three-arch bridge configuration will the first of its kind in the United States. Two wide walkways with open views will allow pedestrians and bicyclists to safely cross the river. The arches soar above the surface of the water creating a dramatic statement along the riverfront. The elegant, multimodal bridge will include aesthetic lighting, semitransparent railings, scenic overlooks, and a consistent visual architectural theme. When completed, the bridge will become a source of pride and a symbol of the region.
