This project includes the restoration and rehabilitation of one of the most architecturally distinguished bridges in New England, the reintegration of the bridge into the city fabric, and the introduction of state-of-the-art historically sensitive lighting and railings. The restored bridge is reinforced to comply with current structural codes while preserving its architectural appearance and detailing. The multimodal bridge was completed in 1908. It accommodates MBTA light rail, motorists, pedestrians, and bicyclists. The restored bridge includes wider sidewalks and dedicated bike lanes. The bridge features aesthetic lighting that enhances the architecture and arch spans over the Charles River at night.
