A unique single-cable suspension bridge that follows an S-shaped alignment will cross railroad tracks and adjacent streets in downtown Portland’s Pearl District. Pedestrians and bicyclists will have a dynamic and exciting experience because of the inherent movement in the bridge shape and changing views along the crossing. The curvilinear alignment allows the bridge to be supported from only one side with a suspension cable system that accommodates the loads with an elegant steel box and structural steel towers. The bridge superstructure creates a robust, sculptural appearance. Elevators and stairs at both ends comply with accessibility requirements. The bridge’s organic free-form expression is inspired by the hills and natural spaces surrounding Portland.
