A new link between the cities of Boston and Cambridge requires a movable bridge to be located over the historic canal adjacent to the Charles River. The proposed cable-supported bridge will consist of a single slender tower and steel cables that will allow movement of the bridge. The towers will rotate to enable opening and closing like a traditional bascule bridge. The bridge will be transparent within the historical context of the old dam complex, creating a new gateway to the river from Boston Harbor.
